Thoughts on modern politics from a historical perspective.
Some old bones discovered in the little town of Sequim, Washington provided an interesting glimpse into the world of science last year. The bones were discovered in 1977, and ever since then archaeologist Carl Gustafson has insisted that the bones proved that humans were in North America eight hundred years earlier than other scientists thought. In 2011 modern research methods proved that Gustafson was right.
The interesting thing about this story is that Gustafson spent thirty-odd years promoting a theory that virtually no one else believed. Other scientists ignored him, some even laughed at him; but, because politics was not involved, no one attempted to punish Gustafson for heresy. No one tried to get him fired, or publicly insulted him.
The President made news on Monday when he inadvertently let a news microphone pick up his negotiations with Russian President Medvedev over the subject of the European missile defense system. President Obama implied that he would be willing to kill the missile shield program once his re-election campaign is over and he is safely back in the White House.
It’s no surprise that President Obama would be willing to kill the life-saving program. American leftists have been fighting against the idea of a missile shield ever since President Reagan first proposed it on March 23 of 1983.
President Obama got to close to a live microphone on Monday, and let the press overhear a conversation that was supposed to be confidential. In what he thought was a private conversation, Obama asked Russian President Dmitry Medvedev to stop complaining about America’s planned European missile shield until he, President Obama, has been safely re-elected. The obvious implication was that the US would cancel the program, as Russia has been demanding, once the US President can afford to ignore what the American people think.
Congress has scored the President’s vaunted “Buffett Rule,” under which high-earning Americans would have to pay a high rate despite any available deductions or credits, would raise next to nothing in revenues.

I just learned about something the government did back in September to increase its control over the American people. The government has banned over-the-counter inhalers. From now on asthma sufferers will need to go through a doctor to get relief, which under Obamacare means they’ll have to go through the federal government.
The administration didn’t even try to justify this power grab with any sort of claim that it helps provide better care. The only justification the government offers is the ridiculous claim that the ingredients in inhalers are causing massive global warming.
First the government uses the manmade global warming hoax as an excuse to take control of the fossil fuels that literally fuel our modern lifestyle, then they use the same bogus claim to justify taking control of asthma sufferers’ ability to breath.
