<description>Thanks for your input, Mr. Chambers. I&#039;ll correct the column to say that your illustrious ancestor attended Columbia but did not graduate.

As for his having met Oggins at Columbia, I actually got that information from your grandfather&#039;s page on Wikipedia. If you want to question that claim you should probably log in with a Wikipedia account (it&#039;s easy to set one up), and ask the author where he/she got that information. It may have just been an assumption on someone&#039;s part.

		<description>WHITTAKER CHAMBERS: correction:

My grandfather did not graduate from Columbia College. He took a leave of absence in 1923 and dropped out in 1925.

In 1925, he joined the Workers Party of America, since communist parties were illegal then.

It is not clear whether my grandfather met Isaiah Oggins at Columbia. Their wives (Nerma Berman Oggins and Esther Shemitz Chambers) knew each other from the Rand School and from the ILGWU.
During his underground service, it is unclear as to whether that included any reporting, even indirectly, to CPUSA head Earl Browder.
